Giving up your source and letting Lucian have it was written like it was to be seen as the best ending, but (as someone who has only played DOS2 and not any of the other games) Lucian is one of the the least likeable characters in the entire game. I just didn't like that it seemed like my ascension didn't matter while Lucian's seemed to be the "correct" choice, despite him being a fucking hypocrite and was just boosting his own ego. Apparently throughout all of the game, my companions and I were striving to save the world from the Void. I mainly chose "become divine" in my first playthrough because I felt incredibly insulted by Lucian and his minions. I think I chose become divine at the end of my first playthrough and "purge source" in my second playthrough, but only after I beat the shit out of Lucian.
